In this show painter Darcy Melton joins forces with her mother-in-law, artist Melinda Borysevicz, to explore how people and still life objects are affected and perceived when placed in an interior context versus an outdoor scene.
Melton’s intimate portraits and still-lifes explore the ideas of fate and choice. From the perspective of the interior, this series is a reflection on what we choose to bring with us as we move through life, what we choose to create, and what makes a home; bound by the question “Was this chosen by me, or for me?”
Borysevicz’s airy works are all set outside under midday light in a rural landscape and are connected to her ongoing series inspired by the feast day celebrations of southern Italy, in particular, the processions that accompany them. Inherent in these acts of walking prayer are the questions, “what will we carry with us? What will we leave behind?"
Profits from this show to benefit East Savannah United (ESU), a resident-centered nonprofit working to strengthen neighborhoods and expand opportunity for families across Eastern Savannah.

Savannah Procession, 2025-2026

I began working on “Savannah Procession” at an artist residency at ARTS Southeast in Savannah, GA in August and September 2025. I was delighted to be invited back to Savannah in January-March 2026 by the Savannah College of Art and Design to finish the piece during an Alumni Atelier: essentially a quarter-long (10 week) artist residency for SCAD graduates. The project started off with a town hall style meeting at ARTS Southeast during which I invited folks from Savannah to come and spend time in conversation: what’s going on with you? What, in your view, is going on in the community/nation/world? How do you feel about it all? The conversations ran the gamut from desperation to hope to rage to acceptance to indifference. Finally, to those who chose to participate by lending me their likeness and thoughts/feelings, I posed the question: what role are you playing in the community we're creating here on this canvas?
This piece marked the first time I opened my studio and process to this kind of collaboration, bringing my painting-as-storytelling approach into a new realm in order to capture the zeitgeist in living color.
